| Fufu and Finissage 25-04-2010 - 25-04-2010

Songs van FUFU The month of philosophy is almost ended. The exhibition The Desert of the Real invited out visitors to ask themselves questions about the unbearable realness of being, about simulacra, fake and hyper real. The inspiring lecture of Henk Oosterling give some of us an uneasy feeling. We listened with respect to the artists Ana Fernandez and Fabrizio Bianchini interviewed by Oosterling. Now we conclude this with some day-dreaming and cooling down with a performance of Fufu. Her songs are about imaginary landscapes that evolve from the combination of intense piano-harmonies and samples, both being held together by a voice that is neither afraid of melodies nor modern fairy tales.

Debat Desert of the Real 21-04-2010 - 21-04-2010

Henk Oosterling, Ana A. Fernández, Fabrizio Bianchini Is our postmodern society locked in hyper reality? A world dominated not by reality, but by a phantasm of reality? A world in which we meet our friends on Facebook, Twitter in the street; a world in which headphones fill our heads with music and children see the world as a fantasy amusement park by playing games as Second Life. Is this the world that the French Philosopher Jean Baudrillard (1929-2007) called The Desert of the Real? Henk Oosterling, streetwise urban philosopher/associate professor at Erasmus University Rotterdam, will give a mini-lecture on the concepts and theories of Jean Baudrillard. With interview of Ana A. Fernández and Fabrizio Bianchini about their work and their vision of society in relation to Baudrillard.
| OK club 03-03-2010 - 03-03-2010

While the live results of the elections are coming in on the TV screens in the background, artist hold a debate about their own political agenda. Politicians of all different varieties think that artists should bring an added value to the city they live in. If that's what they really think, then we should be able to turn it into political currency. But first of all:is it desirable to transform a club into a political body? Or is the art we produce already political enough?

FNV Quality Mark 05-06-2009 - 05-06-2009

FNV Art Quality Mark Rotterdam On Friday 5 June 2009, the Art Quality Mark of the Netherlands Trade Union Confederation (FNV) was presented to Hommes, the first to be awarded in Rotterdam. The quality mark ensures that art institutions provide better financial reimbursements to artists for exhibiting their work. One of the goals of the trade union for the arts, information and media is to improve the financial position of visual artists. The quality mark ensures that artists are paid fairly for exhibiting their work in galleries and exhibition spaces. The trade union introduced the quality mark because artists do not tend to be paid very well. Often, they are expected to exhibit their work for free, with art institutions rarely even paying compensation for hanging or installing the work.
